If your life was already running on a mix of coffee and anxiety…
Congratulations!
For you are not alone.
If you feel that being on an endless conveyor belt of work related zoom video calls just amped up the butter count in your bullet proof coffee, I’ve got bad news for you.
Like Jack from the TV series “LOST” said, we can’t go back to the island….
Still from the infamous LOST tv series by J.J Abrams
Work from home was surposed to be the dream. It turned out to become a nightmare.
“Remote workers also tend to take shorter breaks and fewer sick days than office-based ones, and in studies, many report finding it hard to separate their work from their home lives.”
The average adult spends most of their pre-sleeping hours in a vicious cycle of “self procrastinational” often rooted in the futile denial about how much time they’ve lost - often out of their control throughout the day…
So much so that when it comes time to close those blinkers to get much needed shut eye at night - the body fights it, subconsciously like a healthy host resisting the clutches of corona town.
Like an animal in denial the human being scrolls up and down in a furry of netflix thumnbails trying to quell its existential dread with another leap into the arms of escapism.
A scene from the acclaimed South Korean movie OldBoy directed by Park Chan-wook
For a large part of the human race work life as we know it will forever be tained by the brush that is that imaginary fear that you have failed to login for a scheduled work video meeting.
That which you used to despise, that which used to separate you from the world of office responsibilities:
The daily commute…
Scene from acclaimed cult anime classic Evangelion
….Has now been replaced by a walk from your desk to the fridge (or toilet) and back again. Till the sun sets and the zoom calls subside and you arrive at that much needed respite to do the ‘deep work’ required to further move the needle.

As I contemplated with nostalgia the life that once was, savouring my cup of green tea and looking at my computer wallpaper as if I was some voyager tight-roping my way across the cusp of time and space…a widely shared video floated across my social media feed.
See you at BBQ pit no. 17 bruh.
There it was, those now famous words…”East Coast by the East Coast for The East Coast” or something like that. As I read the usual sea of netizen comments, aided by the standard blend of popcorn fuelled bloodlust - a sense of calm and peace began to envelope my being.
Like a long lost blanket that had been ripped away from my innocent body at birth, cast into the fiery pit of reality…
I rediscovered the simple truth that had eluded us all.
Everyone loves you on the way out…
We are all human screw-ups trying to make sense of the carnage of life.
“I would love to watch a movie about his downfall.” - online reader comment. This movie used to be a hit, we’ve all moved on to the next thing already.
The difference is whether one’s kerfuffles are caught on video or not.
Like an episode of Black Mirror with a playback button on steroids, I replayed the now viral video to hear the words again… “East Coast By The East Coast For The East Coast” or something like that. While discussing this topic with my regular collaborator in the field of MEME theology, we decided to create a capsule collection to capture the current “Big Mood” or zeitgeist of our time - a time of corona, mask wearing, unparallelled world chaos…where even Gods seem human.
From everyone at Team SINGAPLEX, we present to you a very special Capsule Collection, entitled simply “East Coast by The East Coast For The East Coast”
T-shirts available, CLICK HERE (hey gotta hustle in this COVID19 era sia)…
What does it all mean? Why are we here? Where are we going? Our models look as clueless as us, perfect for that ‘dazed and confused’ fashion vibe…kind of the crazy mad state the rest of the world is in now…
Who knows and who cares?
And the reasons? There are no reasons.
Who needs reasons when you’ve got East Coast by The East Coast For The East Coast.
Please consider supporting us Non-Essential Meme Artisans by getting a t-shirt or tote bag before you head to the East Coast, while you exit through the gift shop here:
